Pinewood Derby Fun!

Here is Garrett sporting his TWO new trophies. This is his second year building a Pinewood derby car and he won 1st place in his heat. His car then qualified for the Championship heat and won 3rd place out of the entire Pack. The top 3 cars of each Pack move on to Regional finals. Garrett and his Dinosaur King Car are moving on to Regionals.

It was a pretty exciting evening with Garrett's eyes glowing each time his car raced. Garrett had to try and go to sleep that evening having just won 2 big trophies and thinking about his Birthday party the next day and his actuall birthday the day following. He said he was just too excited to sleep.
Here's number 52 in the top lane.

On top of all the excitement of the evening Garrett was chosen to be Colorguard Commander this evening. That means he called out the commands for the color guards and led the audience in the pledge of allegiance. This was a major challenge for Garrett who gets truly afraid in front of big groups. Because this was Pinewood Derby night, this was the largest attendance for a pack meeting of the year. We were really proud of him as he faced the challenge and did a fantastic job in front of a really big crowd. Here he is trying to quiet the excited crowd.

Calling commands.

Great Job Garrett! Mom and Dad are enjoying watching you grow in courage and character. Dad hurt his back and was flat on his back all week but wouldn't have missed this night for anything.
